The mantra at the Fox and Anchor is: "Hops and Chops, Cuvees and Duvets" and it delivers this exactly:  a multitasking tavern under an Inn in the heart of Clerkenwell, in the center of London. This gastro-pub combined with an Inn is a beauty of a place! With live music, an amazing menu (I had a veal shoulder open-faced sandwich for lunch that may well have been the most delicious thing I have ever eaten in my entire life)! They have great coffee and the service is welcoming, personable and generous.

The room we stayed in, the Smithfield, was small and very cozy. Atop what felt like 1,000,000 stairs, the room has a big clawfoot bathtub at the foot of the bed. I know, sounds strange, but it was actually really cute and it was a great place to lay out my 1,000,000 lbs suitcase! There was a super comfy king-sized bed, a little writing desk next to the window, and a music/TV cabinet that was super easy to use. The shower was big and had a giant shower head that created a sort of steam room affect when turned on to full blast with heat!  And the location? It can’t be beat…far away from the hustle and bustle of over the top touristy central London.  Take a moment to read the story of “the fox” on one of the coasters in the pub.  It’s an interesting read.  Hmmm..

This little BandB is conveniently located between 2 metro stops, so it’s quite easy to get around from there, although I don’t know where you’d need to go when the tavern is such a lovely little place!
