Rouge 58 is pleased to present Amuse Bouche, a glimpse into the intensely imaginative world of Montréal’s emerging contemporary visual artists. Amuse Bouche features the works of four Montréal-based artists that want to bring a taste of their work to Brooklyn, New York. Montréal is an amazing multi-cultural environment that at some level inspired all the artworks in the exhibition.

The group exhibition marks the New York debut of four compelling Montréal based artists including Tim Bernard, JP King, Alan Ganev and Nathan Brown— each using different techniques, presenting a distinguished showcase including illustration, printing, painting, collage and digital graphics. The artists on view in Amuse Bouche represent the celebrated new visual styles that Montréal has to offer. Amuse Bouche aims to extend their presence in small bites specifically for a New York audience. Rouge 58 will be decorated with murals, artworks and a window installation that will reflect pop culture.

Using digital graphics and silkscreen, Alan Ganev redefines classic by adopting simplistic yet colorfully rich and alluring geometric compositions. JP King, the Canadian print master, invents nostalgic vintage media inspired collage. Taking on the illustrative angle, Tim Barnard, a muralist creating works in black and white, brings fantastic pop psychedelia to line drawing. Barnard has been known to use his clever talents to create sprightly large scale public works. The final celebrated artist, Nathan Brown, explores the idealization of the nonexistent and the undesirable through haunting 100% paper 2D and 3D illustrations, a practice in which symbolism and spirituality collide with contemporary youth, coming of age and the urge to belong.

On view May 6th 2011 to May 20th 2011

The gallery is a blank canvas for emerging and established artists working across media, with a focus that extends beyond the realm of traditional fine art into the myriad forms of contemporary creative experimentation. Curated art, mixed with music, fashion and film screenings, blurs boundaries and breaks down barriers. There are no rules in creativity. It's all about fun in the end, isn't it?
