Gansevoort Hotel - Meatpacking District
L
ocated just a few blocks away from the Hudson River, the Hotel Gansevoort combines thoroughly modern and stylish design with luxurious comfort. I can’t rave enough about how cool this hotel is. The moment I stepped through the revolving door and walked up to the front desk I was greeted by friendly, smiling faces which can sometimes be a rare find at many upscale hotels. I checked in and went up to the 10th floor, 1 bedroom suite. All of the rooms offer views of either the Hudson River to the west or the beautiful NYC cityscape to the east. My room had great views of the cityscape. All the rooms are stocked with everything needed to enjoy a comfortable stay including Egyptian cotton linens with fluffy as clouds goose down pillows on plush featherbeds, flat screen television sets in both the living room and the bedroom, Ipod docking stations, complimentary WiFi and my all time favorite feature in a hotel: a standup shower with adjustable steam room settings. The amount of steam can be changed to your liking from extremely steamy to a light breezy steam. I walked out of my shower feeling like my lungs and breathing had been rejuvenated. I felt so content in my suite that I didn’t want to leave for dinner! Speaking of dinner, there are so many great restaurants in the neighborhood including STK (Disco style steakhouse), The Spotted Pig (modern English restaurant), Markt (Belgian eatery) and more. The hotel itself is located on a quaint cobblestone street in the 24 hour bustling neighborhood known as the Meatpacking district. The wall right across the street from Hotel Gansevoort has a work of art featuring Albert Einstein holding up a sign that says “All You Need is Love” created by the notorious yet elusive British artist, Banksy. What was once considered a fringe neighborhood and home to the Gansevoort outdoor market in the early to mid 19th century is now New York’s most fashionable area. There is lots of shopping to be had in ‘the hood’ at stores including Christian Louboutin, Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney and so many more hip boutiques to help you burn holes in your wallet while simultaneously revitalizing the economy. The nightlife is equally fun with all kinds of bars and nightclubs in the vicinity. Hotel Gansevoort also offers its own bar + lounge called “Plunge” located on the rooftop next to the swimming pool as well as in-house dining courtesy of the indoor outdoor restaurant, Ono. You can’t go wrong if you stay at the Gansevoort.
