Morgans Hotel New York
W
hile staying at Morgans hotel in New York, I randomly had a few Patrick Bateman from American Psycho moments. Riding in the taxi cab over to the hotel, I annoyed my travel partner with comments such as “Hey! Is that Ivana Trump?” Once we arrived at the hotel I said: “Let's try to get reservations at Dorsia tonight" When we took the elevator up to the room and opened the door, I thought: “There's a moment of sheer panic when I realize that Paul's apartment overlooks the park... and is obviously more expensive than mine”. American Psycho anecdotes aside, I truly love this fashionable and cool boutique hotel for its style and location.

Morgans Hotel is the standard-bearer of Manhattan-style sophistication and modernity. When it opened over 20 years ago, Morgans was one of the first hotels in the world to give birth to the “Boutique Hotel” concept. The hotel was recently remodeled and modernized yet still retains its unique character and intimate boutique feel. The newly remodeled lobby is sleek and abuzz with tourists and business travelers alike. The rooms on the other hand are an oasis of calm. A problem for some travelers to New York is the noise. The rumble of the streets, even the vibration of the subway invades the sleep of out-of-towners, so they find themselves tired and cranky during the day. Morgans rises far above the street and subterranean noise offering visitors a haven from all the wonderful chaos of New York street life. Rising 19 stories provides the added benefit of spectacular panoramic views of the city. Rooms are small but sleek and complemented by clean lines and immaculate white textured fabrics. King deluxe rooms are larger, with a nifty workspace and living room area with a large flat panel television. The bathroom is impressively spacious and features a black and white tiled bathroom, a bathtub for bubble-baths and standup shower with products by the Greek beauty company, KORRES. The hotel’s famous restaurant, Asia De Cuba serves Cuban/Asian fusion fare and there is an evening cocktail bar. The location can’t be beat. Not only is it located right, smack dab in the center of the hub known as the birthplace of American media on Madison Avenue but it is also within a short walking distance to the Empire State building and high end shopping spots from Chanel to Vera Wang. There also many excellent, non-touristy restaurants nearby include Resto, Artisinal, Alto and many more.
