The Mark is a fresh excursion from the usual stuffy hotels and establishments known of the Upper East Side. Walking into the sleek black and white tiled lobby, if you're not already informed you might never guess that the hotel opened in 1927 or that the building was originally designed by the preeminent architects of the roaring 20's, Schwartz and Gross. The hotel recently underwent a much needed head to toe refurbishment with designer Jacques Granges at the helm, whose previous clients include Yves Saint Laurent and Princess Caroline of Monaco. Located in the 'Historic District' on 77th Street between Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue, the Mark has become a landmark of New York City culture.  Tons of interesting things have happened at this hotel.  Back in 1994 Johnny Depp and Kate Moss, having a lovers spat were evicted and then arrested for trashing the Presidential Suite after the hotel received complaints from none other than Roger Daltry who was staying in the suite next door.  As Depp was dragged away by police outside the hotel, he proclaimed to reporters that an Armadillo burst out of the closet, attacked him and destroyed the room along the way. The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson was recently caught on tape in a room at the Mark, trying to sell access to her ex-husband Prince Andrew to undercover reporters. Oprah Winfrey and Hugh Grant were both recently spotted in the hotel lobby (although on separate occasions) and Martha Stewart recently "tweeted" a photo of her dish at Jean Georges' "The Mark" restaurant.
